What is CHED – JIP?

The CHED Journal Incentive Program is created to support initiatives of Philippine HEIs/scholarly and scientific organization to produce high-quality journals as veritable and respectable platforms for building a collective knowledge base in a given scholarly or scientific field. It aims to sustain the initiatives to pursue quality, research integrity, and honesty and ensure adherence to international standards.

What is the difference between the Journal Accreditation Service (JAS) and CHED – JIP?

JAS is a research promotion initiative that prescribes a mechanism through which a national standard for peer-review and journal refereeing system can be implemented uniformly for all research journals published by Philippine colleges and universities and other organizations. While JIP is created to support initiatives of Philippine HEIs/scholarly and scientific organization to produce high-quality journals as veritable and respectable platforms for building a collective knowledge base in a given scholarly or scientific field. It aims to sustain the initiatives to pursue quality, research integrity, and honesty and ensure adherence to international standards.

What are the two (2) categories of grants under the Journal Incentive Program?

JournalChallenge (JC) caters to SCOPUS/WoS-indexed journals and aims to support activities that will lead to an increase in scientific citation (excluding self-citation) and promote social media presence and public engagement profiles of scholarly articles in the journal.
Journal Incubator (JI) support promising Philippine journals towards the path to meet the minimum generally accepted standards for SCOPUS/WoS-indexability.

What are the requirements for Journal Challenge/Journal Incubation?

The most important requirements for JC are: a) proposal for promoting the journal and upgrading its impact factor; b) sustainability plan to maintain open access; and c) Proof of SCOPUS/WoS-indexing. Other requirements are written in CMO No. 53, series of 2016.

Who will qualify for JC?

SCOPUS/WoS indexed journals are welcome to apply for JC. As part of the incentives CHED will provide support activities that aims to increase the scientific citation, promote social media presence as well as public engagement profiles of the scholarly articles in the journal.For refereed journals wishing to be index by SCOPUS/WoS are encourage to apply for Journal Incubation. All journal applications must strictly observe the three (3) years track record before submission to CHED-JIP. Only submission in soft copies with complete requirements shall be entertained by the TWG.

Who are eligible to receive the cash incentive of 100,000.00/10,000.00 per article?

HEIs/scholarly and scientific organization who may not qualify for JC/JI grants but publish an article in a JC/JI grant supported journals may receive a cash incentive of 10,000.00 per article or publish in a journals with SRJ/IF greater than 2.5 to receive a cash incentive of 100,000.00. When is the deadline for submission of journal application for CHED-JIP grant?

We have two (2) submission schedules per year. Submission schedules are as follows: 1st submission deadline is every December 29th while the 2nd submission deadline is every May 31st.

If we have not been selected for the previous round of evaluation, are we allowed to submit for the next evaluation?

Journals that have been reviewed but have not qualified the prior round of evaluation may submit on the next round of evaluation as long as the recommendations made by the evaluators have been addressed and the new journal volumes/issues are submitted for review.

For JI grantees, given the 3-year period, what will happen if theyfailed to be indexed to SCOPUS/WoS?

Journals that failed to be indexed/listed in SCOPUS/WoS within the given 3-year period are no longer allowed to submit or resubmit forCHED JIP.
